Floor tiles and floor heating
Varieties of underfloor heating systems for ceramic tiles and the rules for their installation. Cozy, beautiful, comfortable - these are the advantages of ceramic tiles for decorating a warm floor. Today, consumers often choose this combination. To obtain the desired result, it is important to consider the six basic rules for installing a heated floor with ceramic cladding. And then a beautiful design, warmth and comfort in rooms with tiled floor heating provided for many years.
Advantages of ceramic tiles
Choosing this material for flooring, the consumer gets the following options:
a wide selection of room design thanks to a wide range of colors, textures, tile sizes; reliability in operation, which provides the strength of ceramics, its resistance to high humidity, temperature extremes; simplicity in operation, ease of cleaning.
For all types of tiles, the surface is always cold. In hot climates or in the summer season, the hot season will be an added plus for the homeowner. And in rooms that constantly require a warm floor, it can be heated. The desire for constant heat underfoot can be fulfilled by installing a warm floor system.
The market offers several options for electric floor heating. It is important to know all the possible types and choose the most suitable for each particular case. Particular attention should be paid to how the selected heating system will interact with the floor covering.
Three types of systems that the market offers
1. Ceramic floor in concrete
This is a traditional method of installing the system, when pipes and electric cables are poured with concrete and facing material is laid on top.
But when choosing a tile as a cladding, you need to be prepared for the fact that the laying process will be several weeks longer.
Before starting the facing work, you will have to wait a few days until the concrete has completely dried. Having laid a tile, pause will be necessary again. You will need to wait at least 20 days before turning on the floor. Hurry can lead to deformation of the coating.
2. Film floor: simple rules
A classic concrete screed will not be needed when installing an infrared floor from a special film, which means that the process will pass faster in time.
But between the film and tile still need to put a cement-bonded particleboard (DSP) to protect the film structure.
You can use glass magnesite sheet (LSU), drywall. But in the case of drywall, you must remember that the floor will "grow" in height by three to four centimeters and visually lower the height of the room.
On electrical insulating material, a special grid with a cable located on it, tiles can be easily glued directly to the surface.
The most important thing in this case is to carefully apply glue and gently rub the seams so as not to damage the insulation of the contacts.
It is important to use special flexible mixes for warm floors. Grout not earlier than one day after laying the tiles on the floor.
It is important to check the integrity of the electric mat during cladding. After applying glue to a specific area, immediately measure the resistance of the system with a special measuring instrument with an ohmmeter.
It must be purchased at the store. If insulation or contact is broken, the device will report this, and the section will have to be redone.
Before starting work, it is important to consider the following two rules:
1. For tiling any of the listed systems, it is important to use special glue.
Conventional glue is destroyed due to the wide temperature range - floors are regularly turned on for heating and turned off for cooling. Not every composition withstands such a test, begins to collapse and exfoliate. In just a couple of months, the tile can begin to move away, “walk”, and voids begin to form under it. They trap air and trap heat. As a result, heating on the surface will be insufficient.
To prevent this from happening, a special type of glue is used for facing, designed specifically for these works.
It has high elasticity, because special plasticizers are included in the adhesive composition. An adhesive with an epoxy base is suitable. Before work, you need to familiarize yourself with the manufacturer's recommendations about the parameters of the humidity and temperature conditions and strictly observe them when using the composition. In this case, the tile will be firmly glued to the base.
2. Install reliable insulation and, if necessary, ground.
The film floor is laid without grounding . There is nothing to worry about, as no one will be shocked. Ceramics have low thermal conductivity and are not capable of transit of charge into the human body.
The consumer is insured even from injections of statistical stress, since his tile does not accumulate.
There are rare cases when an electric shock is possible, when the tile is wet, and exactly under it there is a section with a damaged element.
To maximize the prevention of electric shocks, it is necessary to strengthen the underfloor heating system with more reliable insulation and grounding.
For grounding, foil tape is used. It is glued along and across the film. The other end of the tape is attached to the ground plate.
The implementation of simple rules will allow you to have a reliable, beautiful, always warm floor in the room. Pleasant colors and texture of the tiles will give a feeling of coziness and comfort.
