This is explained by the use of glass for the manufacture of material, as evidenced by its very name. Fibers are prickly, which must be considered when working with them. Respiratory organs, hands, and other exposed areas of the body need protection. During installation, a respirator, tight, closed clothing, rubber gloves, and goggles must be worn.
Stone mineral wool
It is more resistant to moisture, as urea and phenolic compounds with water-repellent properties are used in the manufacture. It is worth considering that for indoor use this insulation is undesirable, since phenolic compounds are toxic. It is better to use stone wool only for outdoor use.
A serious advantage of this material is the absence of shrinkage, due to which thermal insulation properties are preserved. Installation is carried out with the required level of density, so the cotton wool is in close contact with the wall.
It is not exposed to fire. If the source goes out, then the cotton wool stops burning. This is possible thanks to salts of boric acid. When exposed to temperature, moisture is released, which does not allow you to actively support the combustion process.
If you need high-quality thermal insulation, then this material is perfect. Its weak point is the free passage of moisture vapor. If the environment is too wet, this material will absorb water. For this reason, the insulation is not suitable for insulation of elements that are located in the ground. To provide quality protection, a vapor barrier is placed under the cotton wool.
When choosing, you must take into account the influence of external factors. For example, if you need to insulate the attic, as well as provide a living room with high-quality sound insulation, then fiberglass is the best choice. If there is a need only for good external insulation, then you can stop the choice on stone wool, which better copes with this function.
